INAGURAL BFO IN SPAIN A SUCCESS
Bullfighters Only (BFO) recently held the first ever freestyle bullfighting competition in Spain, marking a significant moment in the organization’s history. The event, held during la Feria de Invierno de la Capital del Toro in la Vall d’Uixó, Castellon, España highlighted an all-new talent pool in the sport and underscored BFO’s commitment to developing athletes and expanding its reach globally.
Joaquin Cortes emerged as the winner by posting a 91 point fight against a big three-year-old bull from Fernando Machancoses. With the victory, he earns a spot in the prestigious BFO Road to Resorts World tour in North America, where he will compete against top-tier athletes in one of the sport’s most competitive circuits. The crowd of nearly 3,000 people was captivated the entire time, showing their respect to the athletes with multiple standing ovations through out the show.
Event organizer Cristian Blanco, who competed at the 2023 BFO World Championship in Las Vegas, praised the event’s impact on athlete development. (translated) “This event was a showcase of the incredible potential and skill that exists within Spain. It’s a testament to the growth of the sport and the success of our athlete development initiatives,” Blanco remarked.
Joey Austin, CEO of BFO, spoke to the significance of the event for the organization’s expansion and athlete development goals. “Seeing such talent emerge from Spain is exhilarating. It reinforces our mission to cultivate talent globally. The BFO tour in North America will be an excellent platform for these athletes to further their careers and for the sport to gain new fans abroad,” Austin stated.
The successful event in Spain and the inclusion of its athletes in the North American tour highlight BFO’s ongoing efforts to elevate freestyle bullfighting as a global sport and provide platforms for athletes to develop and excel.
